Insert pack designed for foods with two components

Superfos has added a "two-in-one" insert plastic pack to its
offerings, catering to foods that need to be mixed together by the
consumer.

Denmark-based Superfos says the pack will allow food producers to cater for increased consumer demands for convenient foods in which quality or texture of the ingredients need to be maintained.

"Built-in insert solutions boost product marketability,"​ Superfos stated in a press release. "It provides industry with new ways of appealing to the consumer and consumers need for high quality, convenience and control at the same time."

The company adapted its UniPak brand by adding a round insert built into the pack, offering two pots in one. The insert is designed for manufactures who produce high quality two-component food products such as muesli with crunch, desserts with sauces, salads with marinades, soup with bread crumbs or seafood mixes.

The insert fits into the UniPak plastic pot, effectively sealing one part of the product from the other.

Superfos' group marketing director Thomas Koefoed said the packaging offers new branding opportunities to food makers. Two-component packaging is becoming increasingly popular, especially in the snack meal market.

"By marketing a brand in a two-component pack, entirely new solutions become possible,"​ he stated. "It means consumers save time in purchasing, and is ensured that components are correctly dosed in relation to each other. Furthermore, contents can be used right out of the pack, no additional serving tools or packs are needed. After use the pack can be reused for organising leftovers in a neat and practical manner."

Both components of the two-part packaging use the same liquid tight lid increasing reusability compared to flexible bags. Other benefits include easy handling, improved stacking ability both at the store and for the end-user, Superfos stated.

Food makers can also put a colourful print on the skirt, increasing opportunities to make promotional offers stand out. Coloured text can also be placed on a food-approved and scratch free black colour on the tamper evidence tab.

The UniPak range is already extensively used for yoghurt products, ice-cream and ready- made sauces.
