National Starch Food Innovation's appointment of Fiske as its new
distributor of nature-based ingredients to the Swedish, Danish,
Spanish and Portuguese markets extends a long-running relationship.

It also underlines the company's commitment to achieving truly global coverage. The agreement follows National Starch Food Innovation's successful cooperation with Fiske in the UK, Ireland, Finland and Norway.

"We are delighted to expand our relationship with Fiske," said National Starch Food Innovation distributor manager Thomas Barth.

"This will further strengthen our indirect channel to provide excellent service in Iberia and the Nordic region. Fiske offers first class support with skilled technical and supply chain capabilities."

National Starch has placed a great deal of emphasis on nature-based ingredients since its major rebranding initiative last year. A UK customer-led trend towards "kitchen cupboard ingredients" on labels means that food manufacturers have increasingly been looking to remove modified starch from their labels and replace it with a more natural starch alternative.

The company has launched a number of product lines such Novation functional native starches to met this demand. The innovation starch market is now increasing at a confident 10-20 percent a year.

National Starch Food Innovation is a global supplier of nature-based ingredient solutions to the food and beverage industries. The company has a strong focus on natural ingredient solutions, textural innovation, nutrition, wellness and vitality, and targeted delivery.

Fiske is the European food brand for Univar's ingredients and additives business. The company employs over 145 people and currently operates in 17 countries across Europe.
