New sensors measure liquid levels during processing

during processing or storage.
The DR7000 uses radar to determine the true level of a liquid in a tank even if surfaces are agitated and the vessel has obstructions such as agitators, struts, inlets and ladders, Ametek said in apress release. The instrument uses frequency modulated continuous wave technology and a 2MHz bandwidth to measure and relay the information.
The DR7100 measures levels under conditions that cause competitive devices to fail such as strongly agitated surfaces, coated probe, or foam or fine dust in the tank, Ametek said. The DR 7100 relies on time domain reflectometry technology (TDR), which uses an electromagnetic wave guided by a metallic rod or flexible cable to determine the distance, level and volume.
TDR-based level sensors use less energy than airborne radar technologies and are especially suited for vessels with internal obstructions, Ametek said.
"The DR7100 Series has higher signal dynamics, sharper pulses for measuring thinner surface interfaces, and superior time base stability that allows for greater reliability than alternativesystems," the company said.
The DR7100 is available with five different probes (single rod, double rod, coaxial, single cable and double cable).
The DR7000 and DR7100 both include a touch screen that can display tank illustration, bargraph, oscilliscope, signal and reflectivity.
Both models are 2-wire level gauges that can be fitted to a tank or storage vessel, wired up and turned on. The gauges go through a self-test after which an installation program directs theuser step-by-step to define the tank and product measured.
