A recent report from ResearchandMarkets.com highlighted a number of interesting developments, and Scandinavia's Scanstar awards, held this week, uncovered plenty of bright ideas. US-based packaging firm Appleton is another company pushing the boundaries of packaging technology.
The company has developed the MoistureBloc Folding Carton. The firm claims that the packaging combines excellent product protection with shelf appeal.
What makes the MoistureBloc Folding Carton innovative, according to Appleton, is the fact that it has been specially engineered to provide protection from moisture vapour damage. This makes the product ideal for consumer dry goods such as powdered milk, rice, potato flakes and baby cereal.
In addition, moisture vapour protection is provided without the need for a separate overwrap or laminated film through the application of an innovative barrier coating. This barrier coating technology applied to the inside therefore reduces the amount of packaging that is required, which in turn helps to create a more cost effective performance packaging solution.
MoistureBloc also provides an outside print surface that the company claims provides an opportunitt to increase shelf appeal. The product is also easy to print and convert on conventional equipment.
Environmental considerations have also been taken into account. The packaging is recyclable and repulpable which, makes it more ecologically friendly and cost-effective than product packaging that is overwrapped or laminated with plastic or metalized films.
