Packaging Automation, the heat-sealing equipment specialist, has installed a second of its Vision 4000 machines at a state of the art salad factory in the UK.

Soleco, the European leader in the pre-prepared salad and vegetable market, and owner of the top-selling salad brand Florette, said that it selected the Vision 4000 automatic in-line machine, after research into several producers of similar equipment.

The line was needed for hermetically sealing a film lid to A-PET Salad bowls, containing Florette's salad snack range, supplied to leading supermarkets nationwide.

A second Vision 4000 line, with gas flushing capability and 7.6-metre conveyor, was installed at Soleco's Staffordshire headquarters, just six weeks after the first was purchased.

Launched in 1998, PA claims that its Vision 4000 has evolved to meet customer requirements for hygiene, flexibility and reliability through quality engineering and design.

Soleco, which established its UK factory four years ago, began life in 1983 as a subsidiary of France-based co-operative, Agrial. Today, Soleco employs a workforce of 1,800, with over 300 working at its UK production plant in Lichfield.

Soleco UK's managing director Gerald Lacey said: "Due to significant growth in demand for our products and the market penetration of our new revolutionary salad snack bowl range, a new heat-sealing machine was required.

"We investigated several companies in the search for the latest machine, which would meet our requirements. Packaging Automation was chosen because of the overall service, response time and expertise offered by the company," he said.

Lacey added: "We have been very impressed with the performance of the Vision 4000 line and therefore we decided to purchase a second machine, which was with us within six weeks."

PA commercial manager Samantha Penn said: "We were up against strong competition from a number of other companies but we believe the order was won because of the good service we offer, the back-up we provide and the quality of our machines. And our ability to meet a very short lead-time was also a major factor."

Packaging Automation was established in 1963 and is the UK's leading manufacturer of heat sealing machinery for the food industry.
