The world's largest gathering of grain-based industry professionals will convene at the annual American Association of Cereal Chemists meeting, at the end of September in Oregon, US to discuss advances in production and processing techniques.

Created for food and grain industry professionals in the areas of product development, QC/QA, and R&D, the programme explores topics such as advances in food security, biotechnology in the grain industry, functional foods and ingredients, health and nutrition, structure and function of food components and quality enhancements.

Factors that impact the product development process, such as understanding software simulation and process modelling and integrated product development process, will also be discussed, the organisers say.

Current topic forums will aim to provide the latest information on acrylamides, crop biosecurity, fortification, obesity, and pharmaceutical crops.

"The AACC Annual Meeting is the primary education and networking event for professionals working in the grain-based foods industry around the world,"​ said Khalil Khan, AACC 2003 Technical Programme Planning Committee Chair. "Nearly 300 cutting-edge technical papers highlight the latest innovations in research and application,"​ Khan said.

The AACC Annual Meeting Exhibition features more than 225 companies that supply the ingredients, instruments, equipment, and services necessary for the work of the grain-based food industry.

The annual meeting will take place between 28 September and 2 October at the Portland Convention Center, Portland, Oregon.

The American Association of Cereal Chemists​ is an international organisation of nearly 3,500 grain scientists and other professionals who study the chemistry of cereal grains and their products or work in related fields.
