The Smart Active Labels Consortium is to present its first seminar, titled "Smart Active Labels for Temperature Tracking: Shaping the Future of Food/Pharmaceutical Distribution," on June 10 - 11 in Chicago, US.

SAL-C is a non-profit organisation of technology providers and business leaders from the supply chain market dedicated to developing the use of smart active label technologies in a number of industries.

Organised by SAL-C in conjunction with Cryovac/Sealed Air Corporation, the seminar aims to promote greater collaboration between technology enablers and end users in the temperature-tracking arena as SAL technology prepares for widespread commercial adoption. Industry leaders will discuss guidelines for creating open and common international standards for temperature tracking smart active labels, specifically in quality and safety assurance in the food and pharmaceuticals industry.

"Temperature tracking is one of the most important uses of smart active labels, and there is a great need for such solutions, particularly among food and pharmaceutical producers and retailers," said Baruch Levanon, chairman of SAL-C. "Our conference is an important opportunity for end users in the food and pharmaceutical industries to define their tracking and tracing needs directly to the technology suppliers who are developing SAL solutions."

Smart active labels are thin, flexible devices that contain an integrated circuit and power source. They can remotely monitor, process and store data, and some are able to transmit data over ranges of several hundred feet. Smart active label devices can provide customers with real-time visibility into inventory movement and status and enhance value of RFID technology investment.

Open to members of SAL-C members and non-members, "Smart Active Labels for Temperature Tracking: Shaping the Future of Food/Pharmaceuticals Distribution" will be held June 10 - 11, 2003 at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, Chicago, Illinois. For a full agenda, and to register, please visit www.sal-c.org.

The Smart Active Labels (SAL) Consortium is an international interest group, dedicated to promoting and developing the use of smart active labels--defined as thin, flexible labels that contain an integrated circuit and power source--in a number of industries and to demonstrating new and improved solutions targeted at the specific needs of potential end users.
