Zip-Pak, a US-based supplier of resealable technology for flexible packaging, has introduced a new line of powder-proof zippers, designed to securely reseal powdery products and particulates.

Zip-Pak claims that the zipper's proprietary "evacuation port" technology prevents clogged zippers and enables unused portions of products such as flour, sugar, and grains to be kept fresh and secure in their packaging.

The Powder-Proof Zipper was developed in response to the growing demand for dependable resealability of dry food products and represents a significant advancement over earlier resealable technology, the company said. Previously, powdery and particulate products would get caught in the profile and clog the zipper, preventing it from closing properly - a common problem with this specific application.

Among the first companies to adopt the new resealable packaging technology for their packaging are Marie Callender's for its line of cornbread mixes and Ahora Canprolac for its powdered milk products in South America. According to Zip-Pak, these brands are reporting strong customer acceptance for the new packaging style - even when in some cases it means converting the customer from purchasing the product in a rigid canister to a resealable flexible package.

"Our Powder-Proof Zipper line opens up a number of new markets for converters," said Robert Hogan, director of sales and marketing at Zip-Pak. "This solution eliminates clogged zipper profiles and allows packagers to quickly build brand loyalty with a differentiated product that functions effectively."

The patented evacuation port technology consists of open ports in the profile. These ports provide a channel for powdery and particulate residue in the zipper area to fall back into packages, so the profile can be engaged.

The zipper is made of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and is designed for seamless integration with automated applications. The line is made up of various zipper designs, enabling it to be applied on horizontal and vertical form, fill and seal machinery, as well as pouch-making equipment. These proprietary zippers can be combined with other technological advances from Zip-Pak to create effective customized solutions based on clients' specific needs.

With more than 200 patented zipper profiles, Zip-Pak is a worldwide leader for resealable packaging technology. World headquarters are located in Illinois, US.
