Tecnomeccanica, the Italian processing equipment supplier, has
launched the T2 PRIMA tea bagging machine, designed to produce
string and tag filter bags for tea, herbal teas, coffee and other
infusion products, overwrapped in heatsealed pouches, at the
upgraded speed of 250 teabags/min.

The T2 PRIMA teabag is sealed on three sides and is made from a strip of heat-seal filter paper, in such a way that the string remains inside the bag together with the product: removal is said to be easy, because the string readily emerges from the bag simply by pulling the tag upwards.

The company says that this new type of teabag should be attractive for tea packers, who are always on the lookout for innovations to help their product stand out from the rest, and as a means of making the packaging more efficient.

One of the biggest bonuses of the system is that the tag contains no staples, and that it can be printed on both sides, making it more eye-catching and providing more room for product exposure.

Features of the T2 PRIMA machine are its modular construction, continuous automatic cycle right up to the teabag cutting and minimal number of components, which is said to allow reduced wear and maintenance.

The T2 PRIMA machine can also overwrap the teabags in heatsealed outer envelopes, to preserve the aroma of the product.

The envelope can be made of several multilayer materials, such as paper/aluminium/PE, or bi-orientated polypropylene+bi-orientated polypropylene, or paper/PE.

Furthermore, the continuous movement of the envelope unit enables the high production speed of the T2 PRIMA to be maintained at 250 teabags/min.

Operation of the machinery is said to be user friendly with optional unit operations controlled by a touch-screen that displays messages while the machine is running and explains the reasons for any stoppages. The system has also been designed for increased flexibility, which allows for three machines to be managed by a single operator, offering notable savings in manpower.

The machinery will be displayed at IPACK - IMA, MILAN, 4-8 March 2003, Booth C48, Hall 14/1.
