Finnish packaging provider Huhtamaki says that as a result of extensive research which has included customer collaboration, it has improved and strengthened its Multi-K egg tray range.

The results of the project can clearly be seen in the photograph. Each individual egg compartment has been reinforced with four ridges, which are indicated.

Huhtamaki claims that its tests have confirmed that this improvement to the egg tray design has dramatically reduced the effect of the vertical load pressure when the trays are filled with eggs and transported.

Another associated benefit is improved automatic denesting as the ridges together with the denesting lugs limit the nesting distance of the trays. The combined benefits of the Multi-K PLUS features are both increased egg protection and egg tray re-use potential.

The company says that an international patent for the new Multi-K PLUS construction is currently pending.

The improved design is currently being implemented in the Huhtamaki European moulded fibre production sites. Multi-K PLUS will be available to all European markets as the Pan-European egg tray through the sales offices in the Netherlands, France, UK and Czech Republic.
