Patented Keyseal narrow zipper technology, devised by UK company Supreme Plastics, is being used on a new cross-web, resealable closure applicator that is now available for the first time for flow-wrappers and other continuous form-fill seal machinery.

The new Reseal 460X applicator is made by flexible packaging machinery manufacturer Line Equipment and was developed following the successful introduction of the Reseal 360X cross-web system for intermittent, vertical form-fill-seal machinery. Both applicators work with Supreme's narrow zipper, which gives reliability of application, reduced material costs and enhanced sealing, compared with using standard zippers on regular in-line equipment.

Interest in the new system is expected to come from markets which traditionally use flow-wrappers and other continuous form-fill-seal equipment; including cheese, meat, vegetables, confectionery, bakery, pharmaceuticals, and other fresh, chilled and frozen foods. The cross-web method preserves pack integrity, preventing leakers, thereby reducing product wastage.

The applicator uses an innovative system of paired gears and servo-driven timing belts, with guide channels to feed and position the zipper. This enables zipper sealing to a moving web of film, without affecting the speed of production and thus maintaining line efficiency. The system can be post-applied to existing equipment, or built into new machinery supplied by form-fill-seal manufacturers.
