Protein Solutions has launched the DynaPro Plate Reader, which it claims is the first dynamic light scattering plate reader to assist in high throughput biomolecular characterisation efforts.

The company, a division of US-based Rheometric Scientific, a leading provider of computer-controlled material test systems used to make physical property measurements, said the new technology would enable light scattering analysis on hundreds of samples per day.

An extension of the company's DynaPro line of dynamic light scattering (DLS) instruments, the new instrument allows high-capacity, automated analysis of molecular size, distribution, and other physical properties of proteins and molecules in solution, according to Protein Solutions.

It also allows researchers to conduct automated light scattering experiments using either 96- or 384-well plate formats. The software allows intuitive analysis and scoring of samples using a customisable colour scheme that indicates whether or not samples fall within user-defined parameter limits.

The high-sensitive DynaPro instruments use patented dynamic light scattering technology to characterise proteins, peptides, liposomes, antibodies, and other macromolecules and nanoparticles in solution. Various experimental methods such as online HPLC, small volume batch (two microlitres minimum sample volume), and auto-titration can be achieved using modular optics which cover size ranges from 1nm - 2um in hydrodynamic radius.

A virtual, video demonstration of the DynaPro Plate Reader is on the company's website.

Headquartered in Piscataway, New Jersey, Rheometric Scientific sells its products to the petrochemical industry, academic and government research laboratories, and the food, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and semiconductor industries worldwide. It also has operations in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Japan.
