An expert on PET packaging from the PA Consulting Group is to present a paper on the advantages of using the material at Nova-Pack Europe, to be held in Dusseldorf, Germany on 26 September.

Dr Clive Edmonds from PA Consulting Group will explain the advantages that using PET containers and filling technologies can give to manufacturers, retailers and consumers in his paper.

Dr Edmunds, who heads the Consumer Products Group in PA's Product and Process Engineering Practice, will explain the recent expansion in the functional foods and beverage markets in Japan, Europe and the US, and will predict future packaging development and demands on materials - especially PET.

The paper will examine how greater protection of bioactive ingredients (such as antioxidants, probiotic bacteria and other oxygen and light sensitive, physiologically beneficial ingredients) will be needed to meet future branding requirements and consumer demands for product visibility and convenience.

The paper will also provide an opportunity for marketeers, technical specialists in functional food and beverage companies, and packaging industry personnel to gain insight to product differentiation in what is rapidly becoming an increasingly sophisticated area of the FMCG market.

The PA Consultancy Group's product and process engineering practice delivers solutions from concept through to launch. It develops products, automation and manufacturing processes at the group's International Technology Centre in Cambridge, UK and creates step-change innovation programmes.

Nova-Pack Europe 2002, will be held on 26 and 27 September, at Swiss'tel, Neuss, Dusseldorf, Germany. For future information contact the website at www.schotland.com.
