Alcoa has announced that its Southern Graphic Systems (SGS) digital imaging and communications business has acquired privately held Colorbrite, a leading provider of pre-press and flexographic plates - the steps between design and printing of packaging in the Midwest region of the US.

Colorbrite is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and has approximately 100 employees. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

In making the announcement, H. R. Baughman, president of Southern Graphic Systems, said, "The addition of Colorbrite to the Southern Graphic family makes SGS one of the leading pre-press providers in the upper Midwest and strengthens our value proposition to the consumer products industry."

Alcoa is the world's leading producer of primary aluminium, fabricated aluminium and alumina, and is active in all major aspects of the industry. One of the company's biggest earners is its packaging and consumer products division, which primarily serves the food and beverage industry. Alcoa markets produces its own brand aluminium foils, as well as packaging, bottling and closures.

The company has 129,000 employees in 38 countries.
