US bacon processor Patrick Cudahy celebrated the grand opening of its new state-of-the-art bacon and sausage facility recently. The expansion will increase production capabilities in pre-cooked sliced bacon, salami, pepperoni and its speciality Sweet Apple-Wood Smoked Bacon.
The 11,000 square foot extension cost $25 million (€27.3m) and includes new smokehouses from Europe and a development of the company's microwave cooking capabilities.
The development is expected to add another 200 jobs to the company that already employs 1,300 people and had increased staff by 150 last year.
The opening ceremonies began with Roger Kapella, Patrick Cudahy, president and chief operating officer, welcoming visitors. State Senator Richard Grobschmidt, County Supervisor Linda Ryan and Cudahy Mayor Ray Glowacki addressed the group.
