A new high speed sorbent dispenser is capable of speeds up of to 600 packs per minute and enhances production line efficiency, says Multisorb Technologies.

The US-based packaging technology developer said its new APA-4000 machine can be used with its portfolio of sorbent packs to meet food processors’ oxygen and moisture protection requirements regarding their packaging.

Multisorb said the equipment includes two servo-driven dispensing heads mounted on a single chassis to enable it achieve rapid dispensing.

“Left and right infeeds from two separate spool splicing station cabinets ensure constant product flow for continuous uninterrupted operation, enabling more efficient use of line time,” claims the company.

An added advantage of the APA-4000 is its small footprint for flexibility of positioning within a plant, according to the manufacturer.

Format flexibility

The company said the new dispenser can be customised to work with different sorbent packet types as well as different packaging formats.

It said that the APA-4000 is “compatible with a variety of packaging line layouts, including horizontal flow wrappers, vertical form-fill-seal, bottling lines and thermoformed pouches."

Full oxygen absorption capacity is delivered at the point of insertion into the package, due to the in-built nitrogen flow control, oxygen level monitoring and alarm system of the dispenser, added Multisorb.

Sorbents

The company claims its sorbents inhibit oxidative and moisture-mediated degradation of food products.

Its recently introduced FreshPax S is said to extend shelf life and maintain food product characteristics such as flavour, aroma and texture. The product can be pre-loaded with moisture to sustain a relative humidity level inside a package within five per cent of a targeted equilibrium given known moisture ingress and egress rates. According to the company, the technology is particularly effective for prepared foods comprised of dough or incorporating a filling where moisture levels must be strictly regulated such as refrigerated pizza and sandwiches.
