Demand for aluminium foil in Europe has seen a sharp drop in the first three months of 2012 – with as producers feel the effects of strong economic headwinds.
The aluminium foil flexible packaging market should be “cautiously optimistic” about production growth, despite a 4% decline in foil demand for food applications in the first nine months of the year, says an industry body.
A leading European trade body for the aluminium foil sector has declared that signs of recovery continued to be felt in the first three months of 2011 – although demand for material for some types of food packaging fell slightly.
Increasing demand for thinner foil used in the flexible packaging sector is driving guarded optimism that the recession is easing in the aluminium industry, said a trade association.

Shipments of aluminium foil for the first quarter of 2004 have been
promising, with sales increasing by nearly one per cent compared

Deliveries of aluminium foil recorded for the third quarter of 2003
have declined compared with the same period last year, according to
the latest figures from the European Aluminium Foil Association
(EAFA).
