Barton Group, Inc. (BGI) has renamed its no-gusset, stand-up pouch Delta to Delpenta Stand-Up Pouch to avoid confusion in the market.

The stand-up pouch can be used for dry products such as beans, nuts, granola, candies, such as hard candies, chocolate chips, chocolate sprinkles and jelly beans, soup and sauce mixes.

Zippers and tear notches

The packaging can be produced with easy-open and dispensing features such as tear notches, zippers or embedded pour spouts.

Lew Barton, president, BGI, explained the decision behind renaming the product and said even though there is no other stand-up pouch called Delta on the market there is another product in the packaging industry that uses the Delta name.

We changed our product name to Delpenta Stand-Up Pouch. Delta is the shape of the package viewed from the side, and penta, means it has a total of five sides, with no bulky gusset on the bottom," he said.

Barton added the Delpenta Stand-Up Pouch costs less than standard gusset pouches because the flat bottom creates a greater volumetric capacity in the same size pouch, meaning less material can be used for the same fill.

Squeezy Straw

Other products in the BGI portfolio include the Squeezy Straw Dispensing Pouch line of liquid packaging products.

It partnered with Multivac last year to create Squeezy Straw which is suitable for 8oz milk and can be transparent indicating the fill level of the pack.

The product does not require a straw or cup and compresses into a small mass when it is empty for low-cost disposal.

Barton said at the time there are no limitations on what it can be used for; including yogurt, desserts and chocolate.

The Delpenta Stand-Up Pouch can be made on horizontal thermo-form/fill/seal machinery and there is no die-cutting in the manufacturing production process.

“The productivity of horizontal thermo-form/fill/seal machines can generate high volume throughput that can exceed the standard gusset pouch volume, saving even more money in the manufacturing and packaging process,” added Barton.
