Ball's recently announced agreed offer for Schmalbach-Lubeca sets
the seal on the consolidation of an important segment of the
European packaging industry that will give the company crucial
increased worldwide leverage.
Price recovery in the US beverage can market and increased beverage
can volumes in Europe helped Rexam, the consumer packaging group,
report a 30 per cent rise in underlying profits for the first six
months of the year.

awareness among domestic consumers to safely package food products
from indigenous sources.
Swire Pacific has confirmed it is selling its interest in a drinks
plant in China to its joint venture partner, Coca-Cola (China), for
Yuan 155 million (€19m) and then buying a minority stake in the
