FFP claims to have launched the first resealable pack in the UK that can be collected and recycled through the existing waste collection system, made from an all polyester tray, lidding film and resealable label.

All three components are designed not to be separated which means the entire pack can be collected and recycled via the PET bottle, pots, tubs and trays waste stream.

FFP worked with Viridor to ensure the entire pack would survive the sorting process to be separated ready for recycling.

Once sorted and recycled, the pack will be reused as the core layer in an R-Pet tray.

The recyclable packaging is also available as a Twinseal & Recycle pack, providing twin reseal labels for two complementary products that can be offered in the same pack but separated and accessible through their own resealable label.

Both pack formats are designed for all food products, are easily recyclable, easy to open and can be resealed multiple times.

They can also be stacked in the cupboard or fridge and as there is no need to decant the contents into an alternative container, ensuring brand visualisation is maintained.

The development phase of the Reseal & Recycle pack was very thorough as the product was put through a rigorous approvals and testing process to ensure it was suitable for market,” said Helen Clements, commercial director, FFP.

We have invested significantly in our reseal technology and this has enabled us to develop innovative products that offer a real benefit to the consumer.

The pack is currently being trialled with a number of our customers. It was only officially launched at the Packaging Innovations show last week and won an award on its first appearance, which we are all delighted about.”

Cheese & bakery

FFP said the product is suitable for many food types including: confectionery, snacks, on-the-go, nuts, dried fruit, fresh fruit, cheese and bakery to name a few.

It stands out from the competition as it is the only resealable pack available in the UK that has been classified as Widely Recycled by OPRL and so it offers an immediate solution that can be collected and recycled through the existing waste collection system,” said Clements.

She added, this is a significant step forward in recyclable packaging with the pack being classified as Widely Recycled by OPRL (On-Pack Recycling Label).

FFP’s Reseal & Recycle pack won the Innovation Showcase award for “Most Innovative Pack” at the Packaging Innovations show at the NEC, Birmingham, UK, in February this year.

Voted for by visitors to the show including; food producers, brand owners and retailers, McHugh said this recognition from within the industry rubber stamps FFP’s ability to recognise and react to industry demands with innovative and effective solutions.

Other products in FFP’s portfolio includes; Stand-up pouches, Estercook, Roast-In-The-Bag packaging.
