The French ingredients and processing aids supplier for the wheat-flour-bread sector has opened a new subsidiary in Medellin, Colombia.

The company said Eurogerm Colombia will enhance the Group’s growth opportunities in the country, which has 40 industrial bakeries and 30 flour mills.

It will also enable its technical and commercial reach in Latin America, where it already has subsidiaries in Mexico, Peru and Brazil.

“This represents a key milestone in the execution of our strategy of international expansion,” said Benoît Huvet, Eurogerm’s chief operating officer.

“Our presence in Colombia will help to raise our profile and establish a stronger foothold in the Andean and Caribbean regions.

Key to success

Andrés Builes will head Eurogerm Colombia, a food engineering specialist who has worked with Eurogerm for several years.

The unit - which will comprise a warehouse, sales office and a test bakery - will provide local technical assistance to its clients.

According to Eurogerm’s chairman and CEO Jean-Philippe Girard, the company’s close attention to detail in customizing its offerings to comply with their client’s needs has been a key success factor for the Group.

The €103.9m ($122.3m) business - headquartered in Saint Apollinaire, France - was founded in 1989 by Girard to develop milling correctors, bread-making improvers and ingredients to improve the regularity and quality of wheat-flour-bread products.

The Colombian site is the company’s eleventh international subsidiary outside of France.

Girard added the company “remains on the look-out for any international acquisition and development opportunities.”
