Dairy-free cheese
Brittany-based company All In Food already manufactures products under the Nature et Moi brand and at SIAL was showcasing its new BioVeg brand which will be launched in the coming months.
BioVeg vegan cheese is free from soy, gluten, palm oil, lactose and GMO, and its free-from claims are very prominent on the product's packaging.
Head of sales Alexandre de Ferrier said that the company saw this as a positive positioning as it means that consumers who aren’t necessarily vegan will still find something that appeal to them.
The soy-free positioning is a strong selling point for vegetarian consumers, he said, as many meat-free products are made with soy.
“We also [removed] all palm oil from the recipe because of the impact on health. You can eat palm oil without any problems in small quantities but for vegan people who are eating this type of product every day, they need to have a better oil," he added.
Instead it uses sunflower, olive and coconut oil.
BioVeg is currently in the process of seeking organic certification for its raw ingredients with the aim of being 99% organic.
“We are GMO-free and little by little we are working on converting all our conventional vegan range to organic. It’s quite long because we don’t have every raw material in organic, for example, acacia gum.”
It currently has a manufacturing capacity of around 200 tonnes for the BioVeg brand and aims to have its products on shelves by January 2017. Firm contracts are already in place with some major retailers in France.
The cheese will be available in a number of flavours, such as original, smoked, tomato and basil, garlic and herbs and gratin.
