Lee Sanders, senior VP of government relations and public affairs, American Bakers Association
Lee Sanders’ unrivaled knowledge on legislative matters impacting bakers and focus on helping shape positive change for industry has been acknowledged as invaluable. Specifically, Sanders has worked hard to filter back updates on pending regulations in a clear and digestible way for ABA’s members and fought hard on some high-level decisions. She travels extensively to maintain the voice of industry at important governmental discussions and industry events.
Asked what her proudest moments of 2014 have been, she said:
“In 2014, I believe that the development of ABA’s response to FDA’s tentative determination to revoke the GRAS status of PHOs would be my most important achievement. I was able to bring the industry together - bakers, suppliers and technology developers - to develop hard hitting comments that raised procedural, legal and practical application questions. If we looked at a second issue that would definitely be development of ABA’s industry response to the Nutrition Facts Panel and Serving Size Proposals. Changes to this policy will have a huge bottom line impact for bakers for years to come with all food makers having to change every packaging statement for every product in the marketplace.”
