Pharmaceutical trend spreads to the food industry
Mettler Toledo displayed its packaging machine at Europack Euromanut CFIA, which comes with can label boxes with scannable QR codes (right). At any point in the retail chain, these codes can be scanned and traced back to their production batch.
At the moment, this technology is mostly used in the pharmaceutical industry, said Eric Bertrand, product inspection manager. But, he added, Mettler Toledo has received requests from the food and beverage industry. “There’s a growing demand for QR codes in food,” especially expensive items like Champagne and Cognac because of fears over fake products, said Bertrand.
