Maggots found in Weetabix in the UK
Last week a young girl from Kent, UK allegedly discovered live maggots crawling in her Weetabix after her grandmother served a bowl for breakfast. The family returned the box and has received a full refund.
Speaking to BakeryandSnacks.com, a spokesperson for Weetabix said that the company has since received the sample – sold at a local discount retailer in Kent– to conduct analysis.
He said that the company has checked the entire batch returned from the retailer as well as Weetabix’s full production line.
"As far as we can determine, it's isolated," he said.
In an official statement, Weetabix expanded: “We were concerned to hear about what Ms Read had found and immediately made arrangements to have the Weetabix analyzed. We are currently conducting a full and thorough investigation on the samples we have received. This is an isolated case and we have found no other similar issues on this product run.”
