AMERIPEN identifies path for 2013
The American Institute for Packaging and the Environment (AMERIPEN) has launched a brochure on the value of packaging, a web-based knowledge mapping tool and established two new committees at its annual meeting.

The Discover the Hidden Value of Packaging brochure emphasises the benefits of packaging and explains that packaging protects the economic, environmental, and social value of the products.

The Product Recovery Knowledge Map (PRKM) is a web-based mapping tool and AMERIPEN said it is the largest known collection of information around the recovery of packaging materials.

The PRKM provides a compilation of packaging data across all phases of the recovery system, for use in guiding future projects.

Two committees were established including Government Affairs - to lobby and influence legislation in favour of environmentally responsible policies and Resource Development – aiming to secure resources to support the work of AMERIPEN project teams.

Sandra Keil from Earth911, Jennifer McCracken of HAVI Global Solutions and Jeff Meyers from The Coca-Cola Company were also elected to the board.
