Caffeinated potato chips

Arma Energy Snx recently introduced caffeinated potato chips and a range of snack mixes that it claims give the same boost as an energy drink.

The company has launched a BBQ flavour kettle chip, which contains caffeine, taurine and B-vitamins.

Its other new offerings are a series of snack mixes including a caffeinated chocolate caramel cookie mix and chocolate flavoured granola mix.

Pepsico’s snack division Frito-Lay has bolstered its portfolio with a series of launches in the past week.

It first announced an expansion of its Smartfood brand to include popped chips, popcorn and puffed corn.

The additions all make ‘all natural' claims and each carry nutrition icons to highlight calorie per serving. Some products also bare a “whole grain stamp” to indicate that they contain at least 8g of whole grains.

The launches include Parmesan Herb Popcorn, Cinnamon Brown Sugar Popcorn and Garlic Tomato Basil Hummus Pop Chips.

All-natural introductions

The Smartfood popcorn comes in 4oz bags, while the pop chips varieties are sold in 3.25oz bags. All varieties retail at around $3.29.

Frito-Lay also launched Classic BLT flavoured potato chips to its Lay’s range this week in a variety of bag sizes (1.9ox, 2.9oz and 10oz).

Knauss Foods recently introduced what it calls “a healthy high protein alternative to jerky” with the launch of PJ’s Beef Steak.

The product is being marketed on an “all-natural” platform and the company claims its offering contains four times more vitamin-C than traditional jerky brands.

Finally, Sunbelt Bakery has added Simple Granola to its range of preservative free granola cereals.

The product is another that claims enhanced nutritional profile, including wholegrain oats, added protein. The cereal also contains no high fructose corn syrup or trans-fats.
