Fonterra Australia pulls custard on listeria fears
Fonterra Brands Australia has pulled tubs of its vanilla custard off supermarket shelves after a product sample tested positive for listeria monocytogenes.
The voluntary recall came the day after airline Virgin Blue confirmed its chicken wraps were also being investigated for listeria contamination. Queensland health authorities said there had been a significant increase in listeria cases both in the state and nationally over the last six months.
Dairy giant Fonterra confirmed it had recalled three custard products in New South Wales and Queensland. The company said it had alerted the relevant authorities and placed a recall notice in the major daily newspapers in the two states.
