A new clear polypropylene (PP) has been released on the market,
designed for packaging meats and convenience foods in transparent
trays.

Faerch Plast claims the improved quality of its PP product also gives an improved uniformity to the packaging, increasing its reliability and stability in the packing process. "Consumers want authentic products," the Denmark-based company stated. "They like to look before they buy. This is why the use of clear packaging is on the increase throughout Europe." Faerch Plast said PP is the best choice for microwave only meals. The company plans to introduce the improved clarity PP first for trays used mainly with "steamer" type convenience foods. "Due to the excellent preservation of nutrition, flavour, and texture, the market for 'steamer' type convenience foods is growing aggressively in Europe," the company stated. Jens Bornstein, company managing director, claimed that the PP is close glass clarity. The new packaging is already being introduced to existing customers. "We expect all our transparent PP trays to switch to the new material within a year, but if the need arises, we may of course prioritise and speed up the process," he stated.
