The demand for flavoured water, juices and other non-carbonated beverages continues to rise as more consumers look to incorporate healthy options into their diet, said France-based Global Closure Systems (GCS). Such beverages are often in bottles with a wider neck, as they are easier for consumers to drink from and also enable brand owners to fill the product at higher speeds, the company said. The new 38mm single piece closure for the beverage industry is made with high density polyethylene (HDPE) resins, said Mauro Signorini, GCS' company's vice president of sales and marketing. "The challenge was to design a functional cap using clever geometry that could provide a secure closure and meet the sterilization requirements of the filler," he said. Aseptic filling processes are used to reduce the risk of product contamination. GCS said the new closure has been specifically developed to be compatible with aseptic filling lines. "While traditional in design, the 38mm closure is the first and only of its kind to be produced without the use of unwanted agents and additives ensuring consumers get the freshest tasting beverages possible," the company claimed. The 38mm closure comes in two versions. One has moulded bridges for tamper evident bands. The other has a slit band to meet safety standards in the carbonated soft drink industry.
