The trend for individually sold confectionery is boosting growth at
UK packaging firm RPC Containers.

Consumers are moving from the generic packaged format into a more traditional type of candy with a 'sweet shop' feel and RPC are ahead of the trend with a range of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) jars. General sales manager Sean Dyer said: "We are seeing a lot of interest from customers who require a large jar format offering excellent display and product protection properties for confectionery products." The PET material allows for safe and easy to ship containers without waste caused by breakage. PET plastics have become increasingly important to the packaging industry as a durable and fully recyclable alternative to existing methods. The jars are suitable for the niche gift confectionery sector as an unusual packaging option and provide a practical solution to waste as they are fully reusable with a recloseable function. Dyer said: "Many confectionery brands have recognised that jars make a distinctive gift format, with the large decoration area providing space for eye-catching label designs to enhance a premium brand image." RPC has recently contracted to provide sweet manufacturer, What Next Candy, with the 3.4 litre and 4.5 litre containers. The candy company specialises in novelty and character licensed confectionery as well as occupying the premium end of the market with its gift range.
