In a bid to boost productivity and reduce costs, food and beverage packagers are constantly searching for ways to increase labeling speeds, while reducing changeover times. PDC International claims its 75 Series Shrinksealer has a built-in material accumulator, which allows continuous operation while label roles are changed. This design allows higher line output and productivity, reducing per unit costs, claims the manufacturer. The 75 series can apply tamper-evident banding and labeling at up to 400 containers per minute incorporating tear tab blades or slit tab blades. The system can also apply full-height bodysleeve labels at up to 300 containers per minute, depending on the size. These include tamper evident body sleeves - encapsulating the container cap and featuring a horizontal perforation. A band diameter range from 10 to 90 mm (0.375 to 3.5 inches) can be handled, while the band height range is between 15 to 225 mm (0.625 to 9 inches), claims PDC. A touch screen can be used to control motorised height adjustments, while changeover can be completed without tools, the company claims. PDC claims the 75 Series accommodates many product shapes, including round, oval and square packages. A wide range of sleeving and labeling materials, including polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polylactide (PLA) as well as others can be handled by the system, claims the company. Thin gauge material (40 micron) can also be used with the system. The system comes fully enclosed with a static eliminator and zero-access guarding to ensure worker safety, the manufacturer claims.
