BakeMark UK targets indulgent and healthy bakery

BakeMark UK is attempting to capture both health and indulgence
bakery trends with the launch of two new products this month.

The bakery giant has reformulated its 'better-for-you' cookie to reduce the saturated fat content but is also set to push further into the premium niche with a new butter shortbread product.

Part of the company's Readi-Bake range, the shortbread comes in ready-to-bake, pre-marked squares and is conveniently baked in 20 minutes.

BakeMark UK's head of marketing Vera Malhotra said: "Timeless recipes that satisfy the desire for occasional indulgence are enjoying a comeback, and our Butter Shortbreads cater to this trend perfectly. They also tap into the rising demand for classic, recognisable ingredients consumers would have in their own kitchen."

The company as also found a way to combine indulgence and health with a reduced-fat cookie.

The 'better-for-you' cookie has been reformulated - replacing fat with glycerine and soluble fibre which enables the soft-bake cookie to retain its chewy texture while reducing harmful fats.

A company spokesperson told bakeryandsnacks.com​: "BakeMark UK has more than halved the total amount of fat in the new "Better-For-You" cookie, compared to the company's standard Milk Chocolate Cookie.

"By reducing the overall proportion of fat in the cookie, the saturated fat content is consequently reduced by 53 per cent."
