A new operator-friendly flow-wrapper has been launched by packaging
firm PFM - providing confectionery manufacturers with an
easy-to-use system for producing pillow-style packs

The machine, named the 'Pearl', is a horizontal wrapper which creates different sized multiple packs using heat sealable film.

According to PFM, colour touch screen technology incorporated in the Pearl makes life easier for sweet-packagers by allowing them to adjust operating processes quickly and store any changes in the machine's memory.

From the computerized menu operators can change the sealing temperature of the film, the finseal rollers and transverse sealing crimpers.

PFM's managing director Sergio Paracchi said: "The development of the Pearl will enable PFM to meet the demands of the food industry, where flexibility and high quality product presentations are vital requirements."

In addition, the Pearl can automatically alter bag length, print registration position, crimping alignment and wrapping speed as needed.

There are three sets of rollers in the machine which has a process rate of 120 cycles per minute and includes an axis motion controller and brushless servomotors.

The company claim the Pearl is easy to clean with cantilevered construction and simple removal of guards.

The preassembled components have been designed so they can be removed efficiently and replaced easily if required.

The Pearl was originally developed by the firm to meet the needs of an individual customer but has been adapted for wider use in the confectionery, bakery and produce markets.

The PFM Group, who have been working in the packaging business for about 40 years, own a wide portfolio of subsidiaries such as PFM Packaging Machinery, British company, PFM and BG PACK - which has helped consolidate the group's presence in the market of ergonomic and resealable packaging.
