Rexam is catering to increased demand for different sized beverage
cans.

The company said it is converting four of its manufacturing lines in the US to extend its capacity for special-size beverage cans such as the 16 oz, 24 oz and the new "Sleek" brand format.

The lines will be converted without the need to reduce the company's overall capacity for standard 12 oz cans, which remain a solid and important market, the company stated. The conversions will be completed by the end of this year.

Lars Emilson, Rexam's chief executive, stated that special sized cans now account for about 10 per cent of the company's output in the US.

"We see strong growth in this area and the conversions will ensure that we are able to continue to meet our customers' increasing demand for these types of can," he stated.

Rexam launched of a line of cans, branded "Sleek" last year with three distinct sizes. The 9 oz. Sleek can has the same height as a standard 12 oz. can.

The height is meant to give beverage manufacturers portion control and is designed for vending machines, the company stated. The 10.5 oz. and 12 oz. Sleek cans provide a taller, thinner profile compared to traditional 12 oz. can.
