Adding a washdown enclosure to thermal transfer coders results in a
shorter cleaning time, Markem says about the latest addition to its
printing machines.

Due to new regulations for the food industry, plants are increasing the number of scheduled washings of equipment.

With the washdown enclosure customers will no longer need to "bag" or remove their SmartDate coders from the line prior to washdown procedures. This shortens their preparation and recovery time, Markem claims.

The washdown unit consists of a stainless steel enclosure that surrounds the printhead. It features a removable cover that is installed prior to washdown. The unit makes the coder water-tight.

The unit also features a stainless steel control box enclosure, large enough to hold the control box and the optional SmartTouch portable control system. A hinged door closes to seal the unit.

An optional heater prevents condensation from forming inside the print head. The machines also features water tight cable entry ports.

SmartDate thermal transfer coders are used for flexible packaging materials and applications within the snack food, confectionary, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, baked foods and frozen foods industries.

They are widely used with VFFS machines, HFFS machines, flow wrappers, label applicators and cartoning machines.
