BakeMark UK targets on-the-go consumers with new snack product

BakeMark UK, subsidiary of Dutch ingredients firm CSM, has added
another product to its Bon Vivant range, which is targeted at the
rapidly expanding on-the-go consumer group.

Fromage Lattice Deluxe Fromage Lattice Deluxe Fromage Lattice Deluxe, a 120g hand-held snack, is a ready to bake puff pastry product, with a cheese filling and crunchy topping. The continental-style Bon Vivant product range, first introduced by BakeMark UK eight years ago, is currently headed by the Indian snack product Spicy Naans, launched earlier this year and already accounting for over 20 per cent of the sales in the entire 30-product range. According to market researcher Mintel, the UK snack market is currently valued at around £9bn (€13.3bn), with sales of savoury snacks increasing by almost 18 per cent in 2003, compared with a 2.4 per cent decline in sales of sweet snacks. "The key to keeping ahead in the bakery snacks sector is differentiation through quality, value and innovation. BakeMark UK matches successful NPD with monitoring and anticipating consumer trends- enabling our customers to maximise the potential," said Kerrie Hampson, BakeMark UK's head of marketing. Following feedback from development trials, the company adjusted the blend of cheeses in the Fromage Lattice Deluxe in order to give it a stronger flavour profile. The product, which has strong visual appeal because of its visible filling, is supplied frozen in bulk, needs baking for 20 minutes and can be kept in a hot cabinet for up to one hour.
