Zebra Technologies, a global leader in delivering printing solutions, has launched ZebraNet, an internal wireless card socket option, for its popular 105SL industrial label printer.

ZebraNet is the industry's first wireless LAN option for tabletop bar code printers. According to Zebra, the new system is easy to network and configure as it is compatible with six radio LAN cards (PCMCIA format) from major manufacturers including Lucent/Proxim, Symbol Technologies and Cisco Systems.

The ZebraNet is aimed at a number of manufacturing, warehouse and distribution applications within the food and beverage industry. When installed on the 105SL printer, system administrators have the flexibility they need to move printers to any location within a facility, without incurring the high re-cabling costs associated with moving and reconfiguring a wired networked printer, the company claims.

"It's no longer necessary to use valuable time and financial resources to relocate an industrial tabletop printer in a facility," said Ed Helpert, director of product management. "ZebraNet makes it easy to move from a space restrictive wired network to a versatile wireless network without sacrificing the speed and power of Zebra's 105SL industrial printer."

ZebraNet Wireless Card Socket's internal integration eliminates the need for a bulky wireless bridge and external power supply, and also supports a wide range of networking protocols. ZebraNet also is field-upgradeable, allowing users the flexibility to change cards if the company's wireless network configuration changes. In addition, the Wireless Card Socket includes a comprehensive administration and configuration software package.

Zebra Technologies printing solutions for business improvement and security applications in 90 countries around the world.
