Cargill soy protein isolate facility due to be completed on time
later this year.

The new soy protein isolate facility being built by US processor Cargill is likely to be completed on time, allowing the company to begin production of soy products containing the new isolate and thereby attack the growing market for functional foods.

A report by Industrial Information Resources (IIR) claims that the plant, which was started in the first quarter of the year, should be completed by the autumn. The new $28.5 million facility will allow Cargill to expand production at its existing site in Sidney, Ohio.

A wide variety of soy protein products will be produced at the site and all will contain Cargill's new soy protein isolate. The brand name for the product has not been announced but it can be used in beverages, bars, vegetarian meat products, and prepared foods.

The Cargill division called Food System Design is part of the company's Soy Protein Solutions business. Cargill is an international marketer, processor, and distributor of agricultural, food, financial, and industrial products and services with 90,000 employees in 57 countries. The company operates in the supply chain management, food, and health and nutrition sectors.
