DAK Americas, a subsidiary of Grupo Alfa, Mexico, plans to begin construction of its second PET production unit at its South Carolina plant site later this month.

Lauren Constructors and Engineers, Texas has been awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction management contract for the project and plans to self perform a large percentage of the job.

The construction schedule for the estimated $100 million (€105m) project is on a Fast Track with completion planned within nine months of construction kick-off.

This new unit will produce 150 million kgs per year of PET when completed next spring and double DAK's current North American PET capacity. DAK acquired this plant through an acquisition from DuPont in August of last year.
