Bakery giant Fazer Leipomot (Fazer Bakeries), a subsidiary of Finnish food giant Fazer Group, has revealed that it is to build a new 1,800 square metre production facility on a site in the city of Lappeenranta, according to a report by just-food.com.

The company has signed a preliminary agreement with the city for the construction of the new bakery, which would be the responsibility of the city itself. Fazer Bakeries said it would be responsible for providing and maintaining the equipment at the plant.

Altogether, the plant is expected to require a total investment of about €12 million.

Fazer Bakeries is the leading bakery business in Finland. The company has also a strong tradition as a producer and marketer of breads, pastries and cakes. Fazer Bakers, which currently number 18 local bakeries around the country, bake both national brands and local specialities. The company's own mill supplies each Fazer bakery with fresh flour.
