Corn poppers design beats 7,000 others.

"The Creativity Annual," a book highlighting the year's top designs in the US, recently awarded its Creativity 31 Award of Distinction to Californian company Axion Design for its design of Corn Poppers Popcorn Dippers.

Axion was challenged to create a name, a brandmark, and a package that would have maximum impact and drive high volume sales in the specialty food category.

The brandmark, which suggests indulgent flavour, along with the package itself set out to symbolise sophisticated fun.

The gussetted stand-up pouch is constructed from metallised film decorated with simple graphics that depict a chef. The company claimed in a statement that the design sought to reflect the "hand-mixed, slow-cooked care that goes into the creation of this treat." Flavours include Chocolate Butter Toffee Popcorn and Peanut Butter Toffee Popcorn. The snack is distributed through specialty retailers and select major supermarket chains in the US.

More than 7,000 design efforts, representing 40 states and 31 countries, entered the "Creativity 31" competition.
