Ilapak has supplied McCormick Foods, manufacturer of the brand-leading Schwartz range of herbs, spices and seasonings, with a Vegatronic 2000 vertical, form, fill and seal machine designed to produce pyramid packs for its new Shotz range of seasonings.

The Shotz packs aim to make an impact on the supermarket shelf and, according to the company, the distinctive triangular design is currently proving successful in attracting new, younger consumers to the brand.

Finding a packaging machine capable of efficiently producing such an innovative style of packaging is obviously a challenge. McCormick said that it carried out extensive research to find a machine that could produce this type of high quality pack at high speed before eventually choosing the PC-controlled Vegatronic 2000.

The new series Vegatronic 2000 has the ability to produce the Shotz packs in a metalised laminate material, in single strips with an easy tear-off perforated edge between each pack.

Controlled by an industrial PC with 100 product programme memory, Ilapak says that the 2000 model is easy to use with a multi-colour touch screen while its turreted four jaw sealing system and high sealing jaw closing torque ensure extremely high quality packs and precise, high integrity sealing.

Commented Rachel Warren, marketing manager at McCormick Foods: "The pyramid packs are eyecatching and different and are performing strongly against our target audience of 18-35 year olds. The overall concept, together with the unique packaging, is bringing younger consumers into the herbs and spice market."

Ilapak says that its Vegatronic 2000 range is designed to produce a wide range of pack styles, including pillow packs, block bottom packs, Stabilo packs, three-sided sachets and Doy packs, enhancing the presentation of confectionery, biscuits, bakery and other food products.

The UK-based Ilapak Group is an international organisation which produces and supplies packaging machines and automatic feeding systems on a world-wide basis. The company's manufacturing operation consists of four independent units each with its own team of experts dedicated to a specific machine type.
