Frosted Watermelon
Toasting candy pop treats

Kellogg’s Pop Tarts have teamed up with Jolly Rancher to debut candy-inspired flavors, including Frosted Cherry; Frosted Green Apple; and Frosted Watermelon. According to the $13bn breakfast cereal giant, although fans love classic fruity flavors, it’s stepping up the mark by infusing some of the “juiciest Jolly Rancher candy zings” into the popular toaster pastry snack to pack a powerful punch. Available throughout the US at an SRP of $2.89 per pack.

White Cheddar Bunny Tail Puffs
No puff: just real stuff

Annie’s Homegrown is continuing to clean up the snacking aisle with the brand’s newest launches, including Annie’s Organic White Cheddar Bunny Tail Puffs and Annie’s Organic Cheddar Cheesy Puffs. Unlike traditional cheese puffs, Annie’s puffs are certified organic and gluten-free; and are made without artificial flavors, synthetic colors and preservatives. They are baked, not fried, and are packed with whole grains and real cheese. Suggested retail price is $3.89.

World’s first plant-based cookie

Nutrition brand Battle Oats has launched a protein cookie product to complement its ‘free from’ range of high protein oat bars. According to the company, it is the only protein cookie on the market that uses plant proteins and is gluten-free, non-GMO and vegan. Each cookie contains 10g protein and 8g fiber and is available in two flavors - chocolate chip and double chocolate – although Battle Oats is planning to add three additional flavors over the next six months.  Available online and through selected UK wholesalers and distributors for the RRP of £16.99 for a pack of 12.

Flavor-fuelled simple bakes

Wellaby’s Simple Bakes is range of wholegrain snacks that – at just 110 calories and 6% fat per serving – contains 70% less fat than regular potato chips. Reflecting the growing trend for cleaner eating, the wholesome snacks are also gluten-, nut-, egg- and dairy-free. The snacks have a 12-month shelf life and are available in three flavors, including Pinch of Salt & Pepper; Spicy Chili; and Southern BBQ. Imported into the US by Liberty Richter and sold through retailers and wholesalers for $2.99 per 4 oz (113g) bag. Suitable for vegans and non-GMO verified.

Boosting the benefits of hemp

Hemp protein-infused food producer Healthtalk Live is launching its flagship snack bar called Humbly Hemp to coincide with the 8th​ Annual Hemp History Week (June 5-11, 2017). The company is also participating in a brand awareness campaign – including an experiential dining Pop Up Event – outside its headquarters in Los Angeles. According to the health-conscious company, hemp is a complete protein that contains amino acids, omegas 3 and 6, and a broad spectrum of other essential vitamins and minerals. Humbly Hemp will be available online for $2.99 per bar in three variants, including Cocoa & Sea Salt; Berry Vanilla; and Cinnamon Date, all certified kosher and gluten-free.

Cross-border fusion

Piller’s Fine Foods, a division of Premium Brands, has launched Salami Whips, a range of semi-dry cured, naturally wood-smoked meat sticks based on authentic European recipes. Available in three variants – Mild (German salami with black pepper and spices); Spicy (Central European salami with onion, garlic and habanero notes); and Kabanosy (Polish salami with garlic and paprika). Sold through Canadian retail stores, including Loblaws, Zehrs, Sobeys, Freshco, Fortinos, Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills, and Foodland at an RRP of C$4.00 for a 100g resealable packs. Also available in 15g single-serve pack.

Grab and go

Baked goods producer Otis Spunkmeyer has launched its No Funky Stuff grab-and-go portfolio. The line includes four new products in individually wrapped packs: Chocolate Chunk Cookie; Iced Lemon Loaf Cakes; Cinnamon Crumb Loaf Cake; and Mini Brownie Bites. Although temptingly indulgent, the snacks are free of high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, artificial colors and artificial flavors. Available at selected Canadian grocery and convenience stores, including Freshco, Sobeys, No Frills, Longos and Shell, for C$3.00 to C$3.99.

Lowdown on granola

Protein-boosted breakfast brand FUEL10K has introduced a new Low Sugar Granola range that will be rolled out in over 500 Tesco stores in the UK at the end of June. The supermarket chain also stocks the company’s black protein granolas, as well as its Quark with Fruit pouches, which have only been on the market for six months. The new Low Sugar Granolas are available in two flavors - Chocolate and Apple & Cinnamon – containing only 3.8g and 4.8g sugar per 100 g, respectively. This makes chocolate the lowest sugar granola in UK mainstream grocery, made from a mix of natural sugars and oligofructose derived from root vegetables with added cocoa. The RRP is £2.99 per 400g.
