Pladis, the global confectionery unit of Turkish conglomerate Yildiz Holding, will expand to a new office in White Plains, New York, on Sept 29, 2017.

The company said the new office space is “open and collaborative” for all its 50 employees, and it is located at “the center of a growing hub of consumer goods businesses.” Pladis is also seeking new employees from the local area as part of the move.

Pladis previously operated from two offices: The De Met’s Candy office in Stamford, Connecticut and the Godiva office in Manhattan, New York. The Godiva office in Manhattan will remain, but the DeMet’s branch in Connecticut has closed.

In North America, Pladis said the relocation of its office will help the company continue to expand its regional chocolate brands, including Turtles and Flipz (manufactured by DeMet’s Candy Company), as well as expand its premium chocolate brand Godiva and introduce its British heritage brand, McVitie’s in 2018.

‘Key challenger’ in US premium chocolate

Brian Blanchard, managing director of Pladis North America, said: “We’re at an important growth stage in our business: the US will account for around a fifth of Pladis’ market growth in the next two years.”

Even though the US market only accounts for 6% of Pladis’ total sales, he added, “We aim to become the key challenger in premium chocolate in the US and I’m delighted that we can offer our employees a fantastic new working space from which to set out to achieve our ambition.”

Euromonitor’s report showed that Pladis currently ranks number two in global market share in sweet biscuits and number eight in chocolate, and it is “on track to becoming the fastest growing company in the global snacking industry”.
