The new business, to be called Openfield, will be the UK’s leading farmer-controlled grain marketer and supplier. It will work with over 7000 farmers providing 20 per cent of the UK grain market’s needs, or four million tonnes of grain a year. The deal has already gained approval from the Office of Fair Trading.

The merger of grain suppliers Centaur Grain and Grainfarmers has gained the backing of shareholders meaning that the deal is only dependent on High Court approval, expected mid-November.
