Kettle Foods has recalled a number of packs of its Kettle Chips in the UK over fears they may contain pieces of plastic.

The business has warned consumers the packets could contain plastic pieces that look similar to the crisps themselves and are about the size of a 10p piece (which is 24.5mm in diameter).

Kettle said it did not believe the plastic to be harmful, but has told consumers if they are worried they should consult their doctor.

Five affected products

The issue affects the following five varieties, which all carry a best-before date of ‘28 May 16’.

  • Kettle Chips Lightly Salted 150g (only sold through Asda Stores)
  • Kettle Chips Sea Salt & Balsamic Vinegar 40g
  • Kettle Chips Mature Cheddar & Red Onion 40g
  • Kettle Chips Lightly Salted Multipack (5 x 30g)
  • Kettle Chips Lightly Salted 30g (only available as a complimentary product, and only on certain trains)

It is believed that only a very small number of packs may be affected but customers are advised to check if they have the crisps identified and, if they do, to send them back to for a full refund,” said the company in a statement.

Customer satisfaction is of paramount importance to Kettle Chips and we take any issue concerning our product very seriously,” added the business. “We pride ourselves on outstanding quality and are currently investigating the situation internally”.
