Irish retailer Musgrave Group has renewed its contract with Trace One, software company.

The deal means Musgrave can leverage Trace One’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) to manage its private label range from ideation and specification management to final packaging and approval.

Musgrave started using PLM in 2011 to develop and launch its SuperValu private label range. It now comprises 1,800 lines and was named one of Ireland’s most reputable brands in 2013

Own brand products are an important part of our business,” said Pádraigh Cronin, group own brand manager, Musgrave.

Since implementing Trace One PLM we have seen consistent 6-10% year-on-year growth in own brand sales, which now contributes 30% of group revenue. Trace One PLM allows us to innovate and expand ranges with a strategic focus on quality and local provenance.

We have built on the value of our partnership with Trace One and look forward to working with them further in the future.”

Centra, Dialprix and Daybreak

Musgrave has 259 SuperValu stores in Ireland and operates several retail chains across Europe, including Centra, Dialprix and Daybreak.

It claims PLM has given the company greater control and visibility over its product development process: consolidating product specifications across various divisions and providing a single view and format to monitor the content, labelling and status of all goods it sells.

The transparency allows Musgrave to respond quickly to any potential problems with products in real-time, and collaborate more effectively with local manufacturers and producers.

We are very pleased to be renewing our relationship with Musgrave,” said Shaun Bossons, EVP global business development, Trace One.

Trace One works with more than 20,000 companies worldwide, helping them to collaborate with partners, comply with the latest regulations and exceed industry standards on quality and provenance.

“We believe this gives us the perfect base of knowledge and talent to work with Musgrave, to help them collaborate more effectively with partners and further engage with consumers through innovative new ranges.”

In other news, Musgrave Group has agreed to acquire C.J. O’Loughlin Quality Foods this month.

The acquisition is conditional on clearance from the Irish Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

Currently supplying over 52,000 retailers, pubs, hotels, restaurants and hospitality customers, its division, Musgrave MarketPlace offers Ireland’s largest wholesale range of over 12,000 confectionery, dry goods, chilled, fresh and frozen food products.
