A recall of millions of pounds of General Mills flour has now impacted US baking mix supplier Rabbit Creek Products – which has recalled more than 150 SKUs.

Rabbit Creek, which is based Louisburg, Kansas, has recalled branded and private-label products including bread, brownie and muffin mixes after being alerted by a supplier that it had received General Mills flour recalled due to the potential presence of E. coli.

The recalled dry mixes were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through online sales from December 2015 through February 2016. Rabbit Creek is urging consumers to destroy any affected product and return the label for a refund.

Flour produced in Missouri

Flour produced at the General Mills facility in Kansas City, Missouri, has previously been identified by the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as the likely source of an E.coli outbreak that has resulted in 46 reported cases of illness.

No illnesses have been reported to date to Rabbit Creek, said the manufacturer.

General Mills recall extended twice

The General Mills recalls began in May, when the company pulled from shelves Gold Medal, Wondra and Signature Kitchens flour produced last fall, and the recall period has since been extended twice. The outbreak has also impacted retail products including two flavors of Betty Crocker mixes and a Krusteaz Blueberry Pancake Mix.

General Mills has stressed that the illnesses – which have been reported in 21 states - are connected with consumers who have reported eating or handling uncooked dough, or ate uncooked batter made with raw flour.

In a statement issued last month after it extended the recall for a second time, General Mills said it was currently unknown “if we are experiencing a higher prevalence of E.coli in flour than normal, if this is an issue isolated to General Mills’ flour, or if this is an issue across the flour industry.”

As a leader in flour production for 150 years, General Mills is committed to convening experts to work with government officials to learn more and create new protocols, if needed,” added General Mills president and chief operating officer Jeff Harmening.
