Manufacturers have just under a week to ensure gluten-free products comply with FDA regulation.

All gluten-free products must comply as of August 5.

The Food and Drug Administration issued its gluten-free definition in August, 2013, outlining that gluten-free foods must contain less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten.

Any food carrying ‘gluten-free’, ‘without gluten’, ‘free of gluten’ or ‘no gluten’ messaging above this content will be in breach of the law.

In the EU, this week, the European Commission published its new gluten-free labeling laws that will come into effect in July, next year.

* This article was updated to better clarify the rules require less than 20ppm gluten.
